Rachel, Philip & Doug all met at the University of Kansas while getting their photojournalism degrees in the early 90's. Since then, they have vowed to create cool stuff, have fun and be real.

Betsy + Jonathan : Engagement

I first met Betsy when I finally decided to walk into her store one day after picking up lunch. It's only three doors down from our studio. I'd walked by the store countless times and each time thought to myself, "That is the absolute cutest store ever!" How can it not be, with a name like bon bon atelier, and with two super cute owners??!?!! So I walked in and immediately had a smile on my face. Between the cute bird motifs on vintage tea towels and handmade wallets and the dolled up red-head sitting at the counter . . . . We got to chatting. At some point I mentioned needing someone to help in the studio, and she said she wanted a couple of days working outside her store. I had the guys meet her, and BINGO! We now very happily have a Betsy in our life.

Along with Betsy comes a Jonathan. He is absolutely adorable. The two of them together — well, you'd think they'd already been married for several years. So comfortable together. And happy. They are just two very happy people, and I feel happy when I'm around them.

Well, they're not married . . . yet. Next month, yes, but not yet. So we ventured out to do their engagement shoot. It was a blast. We walked along 39th Street in the Roanoke Neighborhood, diving into some of their favorite stops — Zebedee's record store, Donna's Dress Shop, Blue Koi and Miami Ice. Of course, I stole shots in between, as well. We had to stop and shoot along the Diabolique wall right next to Zebedee's. The colors and graphic were great fun:

This one of them walking down 39th Street is one of my favorites. I love the light, I love Betsy' dress, I love Jonathan's strut. You can tell they're connected, even though they're not holding hands. That's cool.
