Kennedy | West Bottoms

Though Kennedy is only a junior, we went to the West Bottoms last weekend and did a senior-style shoot. You might recognize Kennedy from a HerLife Trendsetter fashion shoot we did for the June issue. Here are several of my favorites from the shoot this weekend:

HERLIFE – June Trendsetter

This has to have been one of the craziest AND most fun Trendsetter shoots ever. Doug and I photographed a dozen babies & kids within an hour and a half with several clothing changes, which went quite smoothly thanks to Pam DiCapo, owner of the fabulous Lauren Alexandra (located in both Brookside & Briarcliff Village). Much of the clothing and accessories came from her store. We also photographed clothing from the new KID oh! store at Halls in Crown Center. It's all so seriously cute!

We had the perfect location: Feasts of Fancy in the Hobbs Building down in the West Bottoms. We shot inside for some and went out to their magnificent courtyard for most. It's an incredible space for an event, and Andy at Feasts makes the BEST food ever. Truly.

HERLIFE – June Issue

Remember the fun Winstead's pictures of Doug we blogged about a while ago? The reason we were at Winstead's that day has now been published: the June issue of HERLIFE Magazine is on the stands. Check it out:

Because of the crazy weather, shooting at Winstead's was our Plan B (or more like Plan C or D), but it worked out beautifully. I love the images we got. Plus, Keli Wenzel was stunning and played the part of a 50's mom (think Mrs. Cleaver) perfectly. Here are some more takes from the shoot:

I LOVE this image of her with her kids. This is as real as it gets as far as moments go. Love it.

Isn't she super cute??!??! We had a lot of fun on this shoot. Thank you, Winstead's (near 135th & Nall), for your graciousness and hospitality. Doesn't that shake look SOOO good??? YUM.

HERLIFE – May Issue

The May issue of HERLIFE is out on the stands. Check it out!

Philip shot Gail Worth, owner of Gail's Harley Davidson in Grandview. She has the absolute best smile I've ever seen — and it never goes away! What great energy. I love this cover shot with her on her bike. So pretty, yet ultra cool.

She also has an incredibly infectious laugh. You can nearly hear it in these images:

Gail loves her dog. I love this picture of them together. It turned out to be a good thing that the cement deck (to the right) was completely covered in bird poop, thus keeping us from getting the original shot Philip concepted. Otherwise, we may never have seen this shot!!! (That truck makes it for me.)

In the Trendsetter section of HERLIFE, Doug outdid himself with the swimsuit pictures. Outstanding! The super cute swimwear is from Swimwear Solution in Overland Park; our adorable model is Linsey Grams of Exposure Inc. We shot in the Bloch Building of the Nelson-Atkins Museum. What an amazing place!!! The white, contemporary space provided an excellent backdrop for the cool, colorful swimwear. Check it out:

HERLIFE – April Issue

Okay. I say this every month, but I really mean it — this must be my favorite shoot. This month for HERLIFE Magazine, I got to shoot a couple of super cute models for a very cool local boutique at a fun location. We shot at Shawnee Mission Park, on the Beach. If you haven't been there, you should go this summer. It's fun. The boutique is Sitzmark, which has been around for a very long time. You know they sell ski stuff. Did you know they have a fabulous women's boutique? Jen and Melissa, the owner's daughters, were so great to work with — they came to the shoot and helped manage all the clothing & accessories. They were awesome! (I still need to get over there and spend my birthday money!!!) Our models were Lukas & Christine. They looked hot together. Look for yourself.

We shot these at the end of February. I thought for sure we would all freeze to death. But we totally lucked out — it was in the 50's and sunny. Christine got a little chilly, especially when she went into the water! (That was her idea.) What a trooper. I hope she didn't suffer any lingering effects from the cold. Sorry, Christine! You rock!

HERLIFE – March Issue

Oh, heck! I had this blog waiting in the wings for when the issue came out . . . a month ago! Well, here it is. You probably have about a day to check out the HERLIFE March issue either online or on location (in your doctor's office, hair salon, local roasterie), before the April issue is released. (I'll blog about that then. I promise.)

Anyway — what a fun issue! Philip did another great job with the March cover, featuring Petra Boerigter, wife of former Chief's player Marc Boerigter.

We also shot the Trendsetter section, which happens to be one of my favorites to date. We were SO fortunate to shoot in The Darling Room, a lovely salon in the Crossroads with uber-cool stylists. What a cool place! AND we had super cool models Danni Boatwright and Joni Harbeck from Exposure. Absolutely gorgeous, both of them. The clothing and accessories came from two boutiques: Savvy & Posh, both in Parkville. Here are some of my favorite images from the shoot:

HERLIFE – February issue

The February issue of HERLIFE is out, and I have to say that I LOVE LOVE LOVE the cover, shot by Philip. I would blog about the family he shot and the experience he had, but I wasn't there. Only he can tell you about it. All I can do is show you the fabulous images:

That baby is absolutely precious. Enjoy every second, Beth — it's goes much too quickly!!!

Then there's the Trendsetter section, which I did in the studio. We worked with Stacy Nelson from Exposure, Inc. who really was great. Poor thing was sick, but gave me everything she had. She's absolutely beautiful and SOOO nice. Her husband is in the military and currently on tour; that makes me sad.

The super fun clothes are from Denim Couture in Overland Park. Hair was fabulously done by Blo Salon Studio in Wesport; makeup was beautiful as always by Sara of In the Makeup.

HERLIFE Magazine

We're very excited to share with you some new work we've been doing. You've probably seen or at least heard of HERLIFE — it's a local magazine that focuses on the lives of women — real women. The January issue is out, and I have to say it looks AMAZING, thanks to a great cover shot by Philip. Here's the cover:

This was a story about an incredible KU student who traveled to South Africa to raise AIDS awareness to young children. You can read her inspirational story in the January issue. Here's Philip's favorite picture of Megan, which went inside the magazine:

The magazine also has a "Trendsetter" section that showcases fashion from local women-owned boutiques. My first fashion shoot with them was for The Market Boutique, which just relocated from Zona Rosa to Briarcliff Village in the Northland. Their clothes are adorable, especially on model Gretchen who was SOOOO cute and fun. She completely rocked the shoot!

The February issue will be out soon. so try to check out this January issue while it's still out there. Once the new issue is out, we'll share with you the super fun fashion shoot we did in the studio as well as the amazing cover Philip did with a mom and newborn. It's absolutely beautiful!
