I've been trying to figure out a way to make a pretty photo of the the dozen or so oil rigs that litter the Gulf view from our condo. A little strong specular light did the trick. Here are a couple shots — I think that it would look a lot better if they were giant wind turbines!

Here's a shot from our balcony again. Can you figure out what it is?

Guessed it? It's the pool shot from above with a palm tree shadow.

Still on Vacation…

As you know, I've been working on blogging photos each day of my vacation. Today was harder… it was a super-nice day so we got to spend a lot of time at the beach and at the pool. I just didn't want to take my camera with me. Tonight, we went to a go-cart park and my wife actually shot some nice photos, but I thought that would be cheating to use her photos. So instead I shot something I saw the other day, but didn't photograph until tonight. The tower we're staying in looks pretty cool from the parking lot at night – see for yourself below. I love the repetition of the squares.

Perspective

So… it's been raining all day. While I'm quite happy with a day to nap, watch TV and read, my child and her cousins were a tad bored. Luckily, there is an indoor pool. But that only goes so far.

I've been trying to blog pictures daily during my vacation and I thought today would be a challenge because it's been nothing but downpour all day long. Since I can't really shoot the kids (lighting is horrible at indoor pools and if I don't have to shoot at one, I will gladly skip it), I thought I'd try to change my perspective and show things from a 20th-floor perspective.

Here's my first try. I thought the parking lot was pretty cool, but I couldn't quite get what I was looking for.

While I got some OK stuff from the parking lot, I thought I'd see what I could get beach-side. Here's a birds-eye view of the boardwalk with a tiny splash of orange.

I think this is my favorite… I love the contrast in this shot – boardwalk against snow-white sand.

Even though it was raining, it didn't keep everyone off the beach. Here a couple of girls walk the wet boardwalk back to the hotel.

I love the contrast of these sand fences.

The boardwalk acts as a funnel of foot prints – in and out.

I like this shot because it shows how immense the ocean is. When you're down at the beach, you only see a bit of the ocean. Up a couple hundred feet, it's all ocean.

We should get some sun tomorrow… See you then.

Day 2

Well it's raining a lot today, but we got in an hour or so at the beach. Here are some fun shots from this morning.

The water is chilly, but it was jelly-fish-free this morning, so we got in and did some wave-jumping. Good time

Spring Break! (day one)

After a very long day/night of driving, we finally arrived at Gulf Shores to start our Spring Break vacation. We're down here with my wife's parents and her brother and his family. We'll be here for several days, and, with luck, I'll have photos from each day. Or… I'll really get into vacationing and you won't see anything more until the end.

Here's a photo of my first view from our suite. We're on the 21st floor – so everyone looks like ants.

I'm not sure what Xen is doing… I just thought she looked cute here!

Kate has the most curly hair and I love how these curls take over the left-side of her face.

Maggie is the big girl of the group being the first-born cousin.

I always have a soft-spot for this angle of Xen. I love her in profile.

I didn't get to shoot for very long out at the beach as it started to rain. It's still raining, but hopefully it will clear up for tomorrow.
