Kdog PHOTO has been around since 1997, when it was started in Lawrence, Kansas, after Doug's short and unfulfilling newspaper photography career. Then named black dog imageworks, it became known as one of the few studios that did wedding photojournalism. Doug had to bring albums to rehearsals so the priests could understand what it was he did and allow him to move stealthily around the church while capturing beautiful images.
black dog imageworks moved to Kansas City around 1999 and gained some partners (friends) for about 15 years and rebranded to Kdog PHOTOGRAPHERS. They were known for photojournalistic weddings and black & white portraits. They also did a multi-year national advertising campaign with Bernstein-Rein and USAA Insurance that flew them all over the US meeting and photographing real USAA members with their unique lifestyle approach to photography.
Doug rebranded the studio to Kdog PHOTO when it became just him again around 2015.
Since then he's been doing marketing photography for schools and the City of Lenexa, as well as Senior Portraits and has dabbled in Sports to help market himself.
A new chapter started the summer of 2025 when Doug passed his Real Estate license tests for Kansas and Missouri.
Based in "The Village" office of ReeeNichols, Doug is really enjoying using the skills he honed during 31 years of professional photography to help his Real Estate clients buy and sell their homes. His clients have always appreciated his timely communication and easy going social skills that turn an anxious situation into a relaxed one. Now he's bringing those skills and more to another passion - negotiating real estate deals.
